5 Tips to deal with Anxiety

I believe we all have or had someone in our lives who experienced anxiety. Maybe this someone is you. However, anxiety makes you either fight the situation or to flee. Which one are you choosing; to fight and get rid of your fear and show yourself that you are capable to achieve your goals or to flee and achieve nothing?

I hope by reading this article you will start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and that there is hope and you can achieve everything you have in mind even when anxiety is killing you because you are special, unique and strong! But the question is; Which are the best ways to cope with anxiety?

Most people who experience anxiety, unsuccessfully, try to get through it themselves. Others resort to alcohol or drugs in order to relax, which makes it worse in the short and long term. Others choose to exercise to release some of that tension. Is it a choice though? Does it help long term? From my own experience with anxiety, I can give you 5 useful tips on how to deal with it.

1. Face your fears

Lots of things make us feel stressed; some people feel a constant sense of anxiety without any particular trigger, others when facing something unfamiliar may feel fear. Fear has a strong effect mostly on your mind as it makes you stop doing things you need to do or things you want to. It makes you limit yourself and not achieve greater things! Maybe our fears are here to give us a purpose of life and fight them. Maybe there is no fear and it's just you fighting with yourself. Or maybe you need to stop fear and start getting out of your comfort zone and actually live the life you dream and truly want. By not facing your fears you miss the chance to fight anxiety and get a better quality of life.

However, to face your fears you need to accept the situation.

2. Acceptance

A great way to break this toxic circle is to realise and accept that not every single thought is a reason to start worrying. In other words, not everything is real in our imagination. Let's face it, everything that makes you worry and fear it's a creation of your imagination and how things will be if you do something; and of course all your thoughts are negative. I know, I've been there; this situation was killing me and messed with my mind every single time. That's why you need to start wondering why you think only negatively and why you can’t find anything positive in order to make yourself feel more confident?

3. Know yourself and Learn more about your fears or anxiety

Trying to know more about what is causing you anxiety and fear it's difficult and understandable. However, you can start by keeping a record of how often you feel stressed, what happened, your thoughts, what made you feel this way. By keeping a diary it will help you to actually see if the situation is as bad as you think it is and you can do it in order to start thinking more positively and with confidence. You can start by setting small goals to face your fears.

4. Try to Relax

One of the things that helped me a lot to manage my anxiety is relaxation techniques.  Every time you have a feeling of fear and stress you can breathe deeply and count to 10 or you can imagine yourself in a dreaming place and start thinking whatever makes you happy. You can also try yoga or meditation which will help you to concentrate.

5. Eat Health Food

Maybe this was unexpected for you, but eating well will actually help you to manage anxiety. Research has shown that sugar, tea and coffee increase anxiety levels. So reducing those three it may help you start feeling better. However, it is important to mention that there are some cases that because of their stress they forget to eat or they claim that they are not hungry during the day. You need energy not only to be able to be active but also to think clearly. Look after yourself and don't let anything make you unhealthy and sick.

My advice for today; Accept the situation and ask for help! It's never too late.
